Chilling out in Tulum

Have just spent a great few days in Tulum. Easily a highlight of beachside stops so far.  If you like your beaches without offers of “parasailing Mamm?”  but instead “fresh mango, pineapple or papaya senorita? ” this is the one for you.

At times, it almost had that Thai island vibe, but perhaps thats the dreadlocks and dive shops around town, easily a place for an extended stay. Beaches, Maya ruins, diving, great cafes & nightlife.

Of the ruins we have visited so far, these easily have the best setting, cliff tops views of the Caribbean, those guys knew what they were at. We timed our visit with every tour bus in the area so we piggybacked on a few guided tours most mostly just tried to find a moment without a crowd to enjoy the place.

This was one of the last cities inhabited and built by the Mayas; it was at its height between the 13th and 15th centuries and managed to survive about 70 years after the Spanish began occupying Mexico. Old World diseases brought by the Spanish settlers are believed to have been the cause of its demise.

Something else thats here in abundance is yoga. It’s been a while since I practiced so I signed up for what turned out to be a fantastic class one morning at Yoga Dicha. I was 1 of only 2 participants so was like having a personal tutor. Itzel, put me through my paces. I arrived feeling lilke the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz and left altogether differently, although my arms hurt later that night while I was lifting a great tasting mojito to my lips. Life is all about balance 🙂
