The car is parked. In fact I have run out of road!
Have arrived at Wharariki Beach on the north-west tip of the South Island. It’s been a while since I have been to the beach. This wasn’t a day for deckchairs and sunloungers though. Although sunny, it’s a little cool so wont be topping up the tan any time soon.
The beach is populated with playful seals, caverns, islands and dunes each having their own patch on this stretch of coastline. What makes it even better is walking through a paddock of sheep to get there!
It feels remote, not quite desolate but maybe an ‘end of the earth’ vibe to it. Here are some shots I took close to sunset.
It was late afternoon when I arrived, so what better than sunset on the water? Love being on the west coast. This evening, although bright, didn’t get the colours in the sky. Which was a shame because Wharariki is quite a remarkable beach. It feels remote, not quite desolate but maybe an ‘end of the earth’ vibe to it. Looking forward to exploring more tomorrow. Here are some shots I took close to sunset.
