Last June, I made a trip to Tasmania for the first time,  am finally getting around to organising the photographs from that trip and will have some posts soon about some of the hikes I did there. In the meantime here’s a short post about a quick stop we made on our way west from Launceston.

According to the leaflet in the hotel reception, ‘it’s a contest between 2 waterfalls for the title of prettiest waterfall in Tasmania’. I was within an hours drive of one of the contenders, so off I went to Liffey Falls. It was good to stretch the legs as the day prior was spent tasting wines in the Tamar Valley. Tough Life.

There are two walking tracks through beautiful rainforest to Liffey Falls, which is part of Tasmania’s World Heritage area. The most popular is the shorter at 45 minute return walk through cool temperate rainforest, featuring myrtle, sassafrass and leatherwood on the slopes of the Great Western Tiers.

The alternative track that I took is less than  a 2 hour return walk on a partially less developed walking track, following the route of an old tramway used for timber hauling in the early 1900s, but it’s not demanding. An easy stroll to blow away the cobwebs.
